Maybe by reading above head lines , the first thing that came to your mind would probably be about poverty, racism, equality or even LGBTQ. These themes are very well-known and somewhat have cliche feels to them,Ever since I have started reading Amrita Pritam,an Indian novelist, 'When to the tip of this tongue of flesh, some word comes, it kills itself. If saved from killing itself, it descends to the paper where a murder happens', my approach towards social challenges have changed. I choose to write about them, not necessarily to raise awareness but instead to show how sensitive it can be.
We witness something wrong every day in our daily lives, whether it be in relation to anything. We often dismiss it, leave it on victims' fate or even think that it's very generic. I overheard one of my close friends say, " These social problems will persist; no matter how much noise we make about them, there are more important issues that need to be solved than serving as a social welfare advocate". I am sure that I would not be so surprised if it was someone from my father's generation, but it was someone from today's generation who has such a careless attitude that these things really don't matter in the real world. On a personal level we all believe that we are capable, mature, responsible young minds, but yet we constantly downplay the severity of social issues in our community.
I do not discount on the fact that we have made significant progress throughout the years, but there are new challenges with every new generation. Perhaps there is less domestic violence in and around us, but suicide cases are very common. Male and female discrimination may not be a prominent as it once was, But LGBTQ population are still struggling to express their own identities.
We label our social challenges as cliche, but these have an extremely disturbing and dangerous impact on each one of us not directly but definately indirectly and And there are numerous small ways in which each of us can, individually, contribute to the betterment of society. Like,an artist through thier art, a media student through thier voice.
So, I being a young media aspirant is taking an attempt to help young people make informal and reasoned decision for the public good as citizen of a culturally diverse ,democratic society in an interdependent world through my blogs. These narratives can help readers explore and better understand such issue by personalising the experience through s story.
